Earlier this year, Yakuza 0 was released, and it was bloody awesome.
Thankfully, the games-buying public noticed its awesomeness and actually went out and bought the damned thing too, which is great, because it sets them up perfectly for the next game in the series that’s going to be released in the west – Yakuza Kiwami.
A remake of the original Yakuza that released on PlayStation 2 way back in 2005, Yakuza Kiwami places you in the shoes of Kazuma Kiryu – who you’ve probably come to love after playing Yakuza 0 – caught up in a fine mess when released from jail to find that 10 million yen has been stolen from the Tojo Clan’s coffers. Discovering that a girl named Haruka may be the key to locating it, he vows to protect her, no matter the cost. Ahh, we love you Kazuma Kiryu – you may be Yakuza, but you’re alright.
Check out the E3 trailer for Yakuza Kiwami below. It’s set to be released on 29th August, exclusively for PlayStation 4. You can preorder the steelbook version on Amazon right now.
Yakuza Kiwami isn’t all that Yakuza fans have got to look forward to, however, as Yakuza 6 is also making its way over to the west.
Subtitled The Song of Life, in Yakuza 6 Kazuma Kiryu will find out just how much people are willing to sacrifice for family – whether the ties are blood or otherwise. Thanks to the new “Dragon Engine” it’s the most advanced Yakuza game yet, offering extremely realistic depictions of Onomichi, a sleepy port-town in Hiroshima Prefecture, and of course Kamurocho, Tokyo’s biggest red-light district. We honestly can’t wait to get stuck in.
