It’s been four whole days since Traveller’s Tales and Warner Bros. released their last LEGO game. Four whole days. In LEGO game terms, that’s a lifetime. Apparently, anyway. Yes, that’s right: with LEGO Marvel’s Avengers only out on the shelves since last Friday, Warner Bros. have just announced LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is in development.
It’s a no-brainer really, isn’t it? Considering each of the other six Star Wars films had been condensed and, er, “brickified” for LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, it was pretty much a given that the new Star Wars film was also going to receive the same LEGO treatment.
LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to release on 28 June 2016, and apparently will offer “brand new gameplay mechanics to build, battle and fly through the galaxy like never before”. Considering that the LEGO gameplay mechanics have remained largely unchanged for the last 10 years, I’m rather skeptical about that claim, but a refresh to the format will be more than welcome.
Of course, with both LEGO and the Star Wars franchise already having such a massive fanbase, there’s not a shadow of doubt that LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be a success, whether or not Traveller’s Tales recycle the same gameplay… as they’ve done time and time again…
