Not only is Friday a day to celebrate the oncoming weekend, get a takeaway and go out for a couple of bevvies with your friends and family, for us here at GameSpew it’s time for #FreeGameFriday. That’s right Spewers; it’s the best day of the week.
I can hear the cries already as people battle forth, screaming at me that I’m just mentioning this because of how popular the article on Slither.io was. Well, you’re half right. It was popular but that’s not the reason I’m choosing Diep.io for this week’s #FreeGameFriday. Again, similar to its counterparts, Diep.io has been circulating the internet for the past week or so and having been so very addicted to Slither.io I had to check it out.
What made me want to mention it this week is its total independence from its predecessors. Where in Agar.io and Slither.io you have very simple controls and have to float around gorging yourself on the minions and pitiful peasant children surrounding you, Diep.io takes a different spin by turning you into little tank-like blobs.
The first thing I noticed is that it’s surprisingly difficult to begin with. At starter level you’re easy prey for anyone who happens to spawn next to you so you’ve got to be quick; run away – away, away! Until your tanks gets to level 25-30 or so you’ll have to rely on your defensive tactics and do your best to avoid the barrage of gunfire aimed in your direction. What I also like about Diep.io is its inclusion of the level-up system. When you earn these points you can use a panel on the left side of the screen to increase your abilities, from bullet penetration to your little tank’s speed.
My one major issue with the game is that it seems near-impossible to defeat those who are in the top three purely because they’ve levelled up to the point of which they have a complete circle of guns surrounding their soft, fleshy centre. I guess Diep.io takes a leaf out of the Hare and the Tortoise’s book; slow and steady doesn’t get totally destroyed in an embarrassing display or fear and retribution.
As always it’s free to play and when you click the link below all you have to do is think of a whimsical name and try not to choke in the first instance. Let us know how you get on in the comments or on Twitter by using #FreeGameFriday, we always love to hear your views, and I’ll speak to you next week, folks.
