Blizzard Brings the Summer Olympics to Overwatch

The Summer Olympics are going to be taking the world by storm for the next few weeks – but the video game world isn’t one to miss out on the action. Blizzard are making sure they’re part of the Summer Games by sending the Overwatch crew out to grab that gold medal.

Over the course of the next three weeks, Blizzard will be celebrating the Olympics by introducing seasonal loot boxes, over 100 new themed cosmetic items and a brand new brawl.

Both loot boxes and the items that you’ll find inside them will have a Summer Games theme, including new emotes, sporting victory poses, updated player icons and new sport-themed skins.

The Summer Games items will be only available until 22 August (although any items you unlock will of course remain yours forever). So if you want to grab something special, then you’ve only got a couple of weeks to get your hands on it.

Overwatch is also getting a brand new brawl for the occasion: Lúcioball. It’s an action-packed three-on-three futuristic take on soccer (sorry Europeans, I mean football). With its latin-sounding name it’s no surprise that Lúcioball will take place in Rio de Janeiro, in a purpose-built arena filled with jump pads and speed-boosting walls.

The new updates, including all new loot and Lúcioball, are of course free to all Overwatch players on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Remember to jump in before Monday 22 August if you want to get your hands on some rare and exclusive loot.
