Top 10 Highlights from EGX 2016

6. The Retro Section

Perhaps less exciting than all the fantastic new releases, the retro area was a great way to chill out. Whether it was reliving our youth, head-banging along to the Prodigy on Wipe Out, or discovering the hype behind the N64, there was never a lack of wonderful consoles and even more wonderful games to discover.
We especially enjoyed watching many, many dads showing their kids games they used to play and explaining that, yes, this was the most sophisticated technology of its era, and then watching said kids absorbed in them!

5. Yooka-Laylee

The upcoming spiritual successor to platforming classic Banjo Kazooie had its first ever playable demo at EGX. Naturally, we jumped at the chance to give it a go – and are pleased to say we weren’t at all disappointed.
After seeing demos of Yooka-Laylee over the last few months, we expected a pleasant looking platformer that wasn’t going to make waves, but after getting hands-on, we realised just how special it is. It’s a hark back to classic 3D platformers, sure, but so much better. With colourful visuals to die for and a cast of characters you can’t help but love, Yooka-Laylee has firmly secured a place on our must-have list when it releases early next year.
