Not only is Friday a day to celebrate the oncoming weekend, get a takeaway and go out for a couple of bevvies with your friends and family, for us here at GameSpew it’s time for #FreeGameFriday. That’s right Spewers; it’s the best day of the week.
Put on your footy pajamas and grab your baby blanket because for this week’s Free Game Friday we’re taking a look at the creepy indie horror game Disturbed. Disturbed is a choose-your-adventure story game from creator Brad Moore and it is definitely one that will keep you entertained for a while as you try your hardest to make it to the end of the adventure without getting horribly mauled by a bear or, and I’m not kidding here, an angry tree monster.
In Disturbed, you play as a farmer who is struggling with keeping his farm up and running. Suddenly, your farmer wakes up one day and decides that if he is going to die anyway he might as well decide for himself when and where. It is up to you to guide the farmer along his adventure and choose where he will go and the decisions that he will make. Something as simple as opening a door or continuing down a path could lead to your early demise but at the same time, if you’re careful enough you could find yourself nearing the end of the adventure.
The main mechanic of Disturbed is picking what your character will do but there is also an inventory element as your character can pick up items throughout the game that could come in handy later. There is no inventory system mind you so its up to you to remember what items you have so that you can use them at the right moments.
Of course the most impressive part of Disturbed is that each scene in the game is completely hand drawn adding to the horror element. You may not think that a drawing could creep you out but combined with the subtle sounds in the game, Moore has created a fantastically eerie choose-your-own adventure game for people to enjoy.
So that’s it for this week’s Free Game Friday everyone. Something quick and fun to pick up and play to see how far you can get. I know I died about ten times during my first 5 minutes of playing but let us know how you manage in the comments below or on Twitter using #FreeGameFriday, we love hearing from you guys. Here’s to a great weekend and see you next week!
