Not only is Friday a day to celebrate the oncoming weekend, get a takeaway and go out for a couple of bevvies with your friends and family, for us here at GameSpew it’s time for #FreeGameFriday. That’s right Spewers; it’s the best day of the week.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and got some much needed relaxation time with their friends and families during the holiday. Over my Christmas break I got to hang out with my one month old niece who, despite not being old enough to know what an elephant is, has been receiving a lot of gifts that are elephant-related thus my choice for this week’s Free Game Friday. This week we’re taking a look at Elephant Quest, fun and detailed game about an elephant on a great adventure to retrieve his bowler hat back.

In Elephant Quest you play as a blue elephant who has had his favourite hat stolen from him from a pink woolly elephant. It’s your goal to help the elephant retrieve his hat by going through different obstacles to find that woolly bully. During your quest you will come across other elephants that may ask you for help or simply give you a hint as to where you should go. Altogether the game reminded me of Super Mario as you have to deal with pesky monsters along the way, which you take out with your convenient lazy on the elephants back, as well as having to backtrack often to complete the level.

There are many things you have to keep track of during your adventure including your health, your XP, and your side quests given to you by other elephants. To get any lost health back you have to kill monsters, the most common ones called Crawlers, who drop hearts that will revive some of your health. Your XP bar is at the top of the screen along with your health and each time you level you can choose a new upgrade for your elephant to make him even better of an adventurer. There are tons of upgrade options so you have to be sure to keep track of your level ups so you can take on harder situations when the time comes.

The side quests were probably my favourite part of the game which may seem strange but they were super enjoyable. There was one quest where you had to collect balloons for different elephants so I was always keeping my eyes peeled for balloons as the elephant who wanted them promised something special if you retrieved them. There was another elephant who requested you find his teddy bear which turned out to be a little more difficult that it may have seemed. Each side quest made it so that I wasn’t simply rushing through each level to get to the end I had to really pay attention to what I was doing.

That’s it for this week’s Free Game Friday. Elephant Quest is a really adorable and fun browser game that I definitely recommend checking out, but beware because you will get addicted! If you decide to fall down the Elephant Quest hole let us know how you get on in the comments below or on Twitter using #FreeGameFriday, we love to hear from you. I hope everyone has a very Happy New Year and here’s to a great 2017! Cheers!
