Today, developer Playtonic have announced that the Wii U version of Yooka-Laylee has been cancelled. Instead, they are hoping to port it to the Nintendo Switch.
It’s not such a surprising announcement, given that Nintendo has ceased production of its current home console, and with the Switch’s arrival expected in March, it makes sense that Playtonic should release their game on the most current platform.
An official release date has also been revealed for Yooka-Laylee: 11th April next year. It was originally slated to release earlier this year and was pushed back into an unknown time frame for 2017.
Playtonic is comprised of former Rare team members who worked on the Banjo-Kazooie games on the Nintendo 64. Yooka-Laylee began as a Kickstarter last May with the hopes of creating a new game as homage to classic 3D platformers.
