Fans of the SEGA classic, Shenmue, should probably start to get excited right about now. You see, as originally reported by TSSZ News, SEGA has apparently registered a few web domains that indicate a remaster of the title may be on the way.
Shenmuehd.com, shenmueremastered.com and shemnuegame.com were all registered by SEGA Europe in September 2016, meaning that they’ve been sitting under our noses for quite some time. And yes, that last one is spelt wrong – apparently shenmuegame.com had already been snapped up.
Originally released for the Dreamcast way back in 1999 (2000 for us in the west), Shenmue won over many hearts of those who played it thanks to its open-world action-adventure gameplay that was perhaps quite ahead of its time. Sure, the voice acting was a bit duff and it could be a bit slow paced at times, but it was an ambitious title just dripping with detail.
With Shenmue 3 on the way it would only make sense to re-release the previous two titles to get new players up to speed and allow old fans to rekindle their love, though until something is officially announced it’s probably best to remain cautiously optimistic of it happening.
