Not only is Friday a day to celebrate the oncoming weekend, get a takeaway and go out for a couple of bevvies with your friends and family, for us here at GameSpew it’s time for #FreeGameFriday. That’s right Spewers; it’s the best day of the week.

Happy New Year everyone! Here’s hoping that this year is better than the last and what better way to celebrate this brand new year then by infecting the world with a zombie virus. This week for Free Game Friday we’re taking a look at Infectonater 2, an adorable yet pretty violent pixel art game that can be found on Kongregate.com. In Infectonater 2 you have the ability to infect people all over the world with a zombie virus with your main goal being, of course, a fully infected world.

To start off in Infectonater 2 you simply infect one or two people intentionally in order to help the infection spread. Your zombies will saunter around, taking out unsuspecting civilians, which will in turn continue to create more zombies as they then go around attacking others. The catch is that the zombies can only do their zombie duties for a few seconds before decomposing and dying for real, so to speak. Another way that zombies can get taken out is by police officers who can shoot the zombies if they get too close. What ensues is a game that truly makes you strategise much more than you may think is needed.

Another huge part of Infectonater 2 which makes the game a little less challenging as you move on is upgrades. With each new person that you infect, they will drop coins that you are able to pick up and put towards upgrades for your zombies. When in the upgrade station, or the “laboratory” as it is called in the game, you can give your zombies all kinds of upgrades to make them more resilient. For example, since your zombies only live for a few seconds you can upgrade their lifespan so that they last just a little bit longer which could mean the difference between winning or losing a level. You can also increase the direction with which your virus spreads; at the beginning in only moves in four direction, but with a few upgrades you could infect up to nine people with one blast of the vicious zombie virus.

Along with zombie upgrades you are also able to upgrade types of zombies as well as types of weapons that you can use. That’s right, zombies aren’t the only weapon that you can use in Infectonater 2: you always have access to grenades, landmines and more to help keep the world population down a bit. Altogether the upgrade system is very well done and lends a lot of replayablility because you’ll find yourself wanting to go back and pick a different upgrade that may be more useful than the one you picked on your first go around.

That’s it for this week’s Free Game Friday everyone. Infectonater 2 is a super addictive game that’s just good fun. You’ll have a blast watching your zombies infect other people as well as cleaning up the rest with grenades and other such goodies.
