Meet the Crew: Mass Effect Andromeda

The latest trailers for Mass Effect Andromeda have hit the internet, offering more of an insight into the story, its characters and the stakes of Bioware’s latest instalment to the franchise.

Taking place 600 years after the events of the original Mass Effect trilogy, you will play as the Pathfinder, an operative tasked with locating a suitable planet to call home before time runs out.

In the trailers, we learn more about space explorer Alec Ryder, N7 operative for Andromeda and father of Sarah and Scott Ryder, the character that players will pick to play as throughout the course of the game. There are also introductions to your human companions, including Liam Kosta and Cora Harper, in addition to Peebee, the Asari featured in previous showcases and a better introduction is the, as yet unnamed, Krogan ally and female Turian.

We also catch a glimpse of a few new aliens (all of which look fantastic), including the primary antagonist Arkcon, one of many promised romance options and some cheesy dialogue that also offers up one of the best lines so far to come out of Andromeda: “I don’t need an army. I have a Krogan.”

Mass Effect Andromeda is shaping up to be an exciting instalment to the open-world franchise. There is a great blend of old and new with the new ship models and aliens providing that breath of fresh air while retaining the lore and familiarity of its predecessors. And with a more Star Trek feel to the story, this could just be the sci-fi adventure game that we’ve been waiting for.

Mass Effect Andromeda will be released on 21st March 21st and be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
