If there’s one feature that the Xbox One has that leaves PS4 owners more than a little bit envious, it’s got to be external hard drive support.
Well, envy no more our PS4 friends, because it’s coming as part of PS4 system software update 4.50, along with some other tasty treats.
No date has been specified for PS4 system software update 4.50 yet, but when it hits you’ll finally be able to install games directly to USB3.0 compatible external hard drives up to 8TB in size. After using the feature on Xbox One for years now, we can confirm that it is revolutionary. No longer will you have to sit there, antagonising over which games you’re going to delete so you can install the latest 50GB blockbuster release, or worry about games auto downloading 10GB+ patches without you knowing. You can even manage your content easily via the settings menu.
Amongst other PS4 system software update 4.50 features and improvements are custom wallpapers, a simplified notifications list, and even the ability to watch 3D movies via the PSVR headset. Honestly, Sony really are pulling out all the stops with this one, and more features are yet to be announced.
