The 10 Best Zombie Apocalypse Games on PlayStation 4

Whether you call ’em zombies, walkers, creepers, dead ones or lamebrains, the living dead are everywhere. At least in popular culture, anyway (for now, at least). Thanks in part to AMC’s The Walking Dead there’s no escaping hordes of the undead on our TV screens, and that’s extended into our favourite video games too.

There are no genres safe from the zombie epidemic. Though, to be honest, there’s nothing finer than bashing your way through a horde of rotting fleshbags like some kind of blood-soaked superhero. Be it your fists, a modified weapon or a sniper rifle, video games offer us a great range of ways to fight against the undead. Fancy getting in on the action? Here’s our 10 favourite zombie apocalypse games on PlayStation 4.

10. Deadlight: Director’s Cut

Tequila Works’ Deadlight was originally released on PC and Xbox One back in 2012, but last year saw a release of the Director’s Cut on current gen consoles. It’s a side-scrolling action platformer that puts you in the shoes of Randall Wayne, a park ranger in the midst of a zombie apocalypse, hoping to reunite with his wife and child.

Deadlight is about as visceral and emotionally charged as a platform game can ever get, but its gameplay is key – plenty of environmental puzzles and platforming obstacles are thrown in at every turn to ensure Deadlight is as engaging as it is raw. And, of course, there’s plenty of zombies to shoot and hack at, too.

9. Telltale’s The Walking Dead

It may be based on the comic of the same name that spawned the successful TV programme, but Telltale’s The Walking Dead isn’t quite as action-packed as Rick Grimes’ own fight against walkers. Instead, the game is a slower-paced narrative-driven experience, exploring the relationships of survivors, centring around a young girl named Clementine.

Now in its third season – fourth, if you count the Michonne spin-off – Telltale’s episodic adventure still has plenty of moments where you’re wrangling with zombies, mind, but expect quick time events rather than balls-to-the-wall action. Still, The Walking Dead is an essential title for anybody looking for a complete spectrum of zombie-themed games on their PS4.
