Free Game Friday: Words Warrior

Not only is Friday a day to celebrate the oncoming weekend, get a takeaway and go out for a couple of bevvies with your friends and family, for us here at GameSpew it’s time for #FreeGameFriday. That’s right Spewers; it’s the best day of the week.

This week’s Free Game Friday is something that a friend recommended to me. She was surprised that even though I frequent kongregate.com to find cool free games to share with you lovely people every week, I hadn’t yet come across it. We’re taking a look at Words Warrior, a clever word adventure.

Words Warrior doesn’t look like much at first – you’re given control of the protagonist and are taught to move back, forth, up and down. Also on the screen are lines of text, describing the action that’s about to take place. Within the words that appear on each page are the solutions to solve each little puzzle the game gives you. If you tap the word “storm”, for example, a storm begins to brew and starts pouring down on the page of words. If you tap “sword”, you’ll grab a new weapon from nowhere in order to use it in a fight ahead.

The best part about Words Warrior is how it makes you think. Not every level is as simple as picking up a sword to fight off a knight. Sometimes, you really have to think about how to solve the level using only the words provided to you. You’ve got a huge pit in front of you, for example, and on the page somewhere is the word bridge; now you’ve got a bridge over the pit. It’s a shame that Words Warrior is so short; it’s a very clever and beautiful game that would make a great foundation for a longer title.

If you like puzzle games with a unique twist then Words Warrior might be right up your alley. If you decide to give it a shot let us know down below in the comments how you like it or on Twitter using #FreeGameFriday, we love hearing from you! Here’s to a great weekend and be seeing you next week!

Becca knew that she would be addicted to video games for the rest of her life when she saw the first pixelated zombie shambling across her TV screen while playing Resident Evil 3. She particularly enjoys being scared, laughing until she cries, or just plain crying while experiencing games. When she isn't playing games she loves spoiling her cat Usagi and eating any kind of sushi she can find.
