There are literally hundreds of varieties of 2048, but they all have the same general idea: slide blocks of matching pairs together to ‘level’ them up. The original game involved numbers – i.e. matching two ‘2’ blocks to make a ‘4’, then two ‘4’s to make an ‘8’, and so on, all the way until you got one block to 2048, when you’d ‘win’ the game. Newer variations include city building, where you’ll start off with blocks of trees and eventually end up with massive skyscrapers, but the premise remains the same. Any variant is fun, but you can’t beat the original.
7. Episode: Choose Your Story
Episode is a little different from the rest of the games on this list. More of a collection of choose-your-own-adventure style stories than an actual game, Episode is filled with tales of romance, intrigue, mystery… and Mean Girls. Yup, there’s a Mean Girls game in there. If I’m being honest, that’s the only reason I ever picked it up in the first place.
Sure, it’s incredibly cheesy, but playing through a couple of chapters of an Episode story is a great way to unwind. The only caveat is that you only get a limited number of credits to unlock new episodes every day, so if you don’t want to spend any money you’ve got to be pretty patient.
