In recent years games retail has gotten a little out of hand.
More often than not, when you want to buy the latest physical release of a game you’re faced with a choice: do you just buy the standard edition? Maybe the gold edition that comes with a season pass or other exclusive digital content? Or possibly even the collector’s edition that comes with lots of physical extras?
Usually the collector’s edition of a game is filled with tat that quite honestly isn’t worth the extra money, but sometimes they turn out to be decent investments. Made in limited runs, the collector’s editions of certain games can appreciate in value, allowing you to have some fun with them before selling them on to make a tidy profit. Or you can keep them sealed to add even more value.
Want some examples? Here are five PS4 collector’s edition games released in the UK that are now worth a small fortune.
Horizon Zero Dawn – Collector’s Edition
Original RRP: £104.99
What it’s worth now: £190 – £240
What it includes:
- Horizon Zero Dawn Game
- SteelBook Case
- Exclusive PS4 Theme
- ‘The Art of Horizon Zero Dawn’ Art Book
- 9′ Aloy Statue
- Carja Storm Ranger Outfit & Mighty Bow DLC
- Banuk Trailblazer Outfit & Culling Bow DLC
- Banuk Traveller, Carja Trader & Nora Keeper DLC Packs
One of the best games of 2017, those who took a punt on the Horizon Zero Dawn collector’s edition will find that it has pretty much doubled in value.
Containing a brilliant Aloy statue, a rather nice art book and more, its original price of £1o4.99 was rather reasonable. Now, however, you’re looking at spending around £190 to pick one up. Given Horizon Zero Dawn‘s success we’d wager that this one will keep gaining value too.
