5 Franchises That Need a Fighting Game Spin-Off

There has been somewhat of a renaissance of fighting games over the last few years.

Injustice 2 is not even a year old, and so far this year we’ve had Dragon Ball Fighter Z and Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

It seems that there has never been a better time to release a fighting game, and with so many franchises branching out into beat’em up territory, why not throw some more into the mix? Here are five franchises that we’d love to see turned into a fighting game.

1. Kingdom Hearts

The first game on this list is another big Square Enix property, in the form of Kingdom Hearts. While Dissidia is the only fighting franchise starring Square Enix characters, it does neglect some of the most interesting characters they have created and starred. It is easy to imagine the battles of Kingdom Hearts II but on a much more visceral level, that you could play against friends. I’m sold on concept alone. I’m not sure how keen Disney will be at the thought of battering Donald and Goofy, but hey, minor details.

2. The Elder Scrolls Series

The biggest thing missing from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was the Arena. It was one of the first things you came in Oblivion and was a staple in the series beforehand. A fighting game set in the world of The Elder Scrolls would allow you to enjoy the glory of battle and feel every part the hero – including receiving an annoying fan if you were crowned champion.

3. Star Wars

Everyone and their nan loves Star Wars. What isn’t there to love? You’ve got groovy aliens, intense action and a promise of amputation. Okay, the franchise has been brought to fighting games before with the notorious Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi – also known as the poor man’s Tekken. There also was the greatly underappreciated versus mode in the video-ame adaption of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

The only thing letting thatt versus mode down was that it wasn’t the focus of the game but instead a side note. If this mode was the sole focus, letting us battle it out as any number of Star Wars characters, it’d be a sure fire hit. A one-on-one between Darth Vader and Chewie? My nan would be sure to love that.

4. Rockstar Games

Okay, so Rockstar isn’t exactly a franchise, but some of the most recognisable characters of modern gaming history come from this studio. Despite not releasing much since Grand Theft Auto V there is still is a plethora of names that we wouldn’t mind seeing kicking the teeth out of each other. Whether it’d be pitting Jimmy Hopkins from Bully against the anti-hero John Marston or having a Grand Theft Auto battle royale, it is easy to see the potential of bunching together these properties into the bloody fighter Rockstar would surely produce.

5. The Sims

We have done some cruel things to our sims, so why not get them to fight to the death as well? C’mon EA, the next Sims 4 expansion needs to be Sims 4: Roundhouse, complete with boxing rings our sims can place in their back yards.
