While King Evan is our main man in Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, he doesn’t always have to be.
By default, you’ll play as King Evan in all aspects of the game, including combat, town exploring, and traversing the world map. Your other party members will tag along with you, controlled by the CPU. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
At any point and in any game mode, you can switch to control another character if you want. If you want to change characters in Ni no Kuni 2, simply hit up or down on the d-pad to cycle through your available party members.
If your current character falls in combat, the game will automatically put you in control of the next character, but pressing up or down on the d-pad will allow you to select whichever character you’d prefer (although remember you’ll need to use some Angel’s Tear on your original character to bring ’em back to life first!)
If you’d rather change your party line-up altogether once you have more than three available characters, you can do this from the main menu. Choose ‘Change party’, and simply click the character you’d like, then click the one you’d like to replace. Whichever three characters appear at the top of the list are the three that will form your active party, and the very top character denotes the one in your control.
