Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom makes a lot of changes from its predecessor, but one of the big ones in combat is a new weapon changing system.
Rather than just having one weapon equipped, each character now has three, along with one ranged weapon. Each weapon has a ‘Zing’ percentage that fills up to 100% as you use it and attack enemies. The idea is to always use a weapon that’s as close to 100% as possible. That means frequently changing which weapon you have on hand.
There are a few ways to change your weapon in Ni no Kuni 2. You can do it completely manually, let the game do it for you automatically, or choose a mixture of both. To change your settings, head into the game’s menu, select Equipment & Skills, and press in your left stick to toggle between them.
Manual means that the weapon won’t change unless you change it yourself. To do this, you need to press the left trigger to cycle through your three available weapons.
Automatic means that you cannot change weapons yourself. The game will always auto-equip you with the weapon that’s got the highest Zing.
Semi-Automatic is somewhere in the middle — you can change weapons on the fly, but the game will also change for you when your current weapon’s Zing depletes.
Changing weapons in Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom is as simple as that. You can change the mode at any time from the menu, so try all three out and see what works best for you.
