Looking forward to being reunited with Spyro the Dragon in Spyro Reignited Trilogy next month? You might want to cancel that physical preorder you’ve made.
New box art for the game suggests you’re going to need to download content for it to be playable, while an image of the back of the game’s box on Amazon Germany paints an even worrying picture.
Above and to the left, you’ll see the front cover of the Xbox One version of Spyro Reignited Trilogy which states that it requires content download. To the right of that, you’ll see the back of the box for the German PS4 version of the game, with an excerpt of some text from that below. Translated, it roughly reads that Spyro 2 & 3 require an internet connection to be downloaded. The disc contains Spyro 1, and digital download instructions are included for Spyro 2 & 3.
While it’s bad enough that you’ll need to download two games that form the trilogy, what’s unclear is how you’ll be able to do that. If you simply need to put the disc in your machine and you’re able to download Spyro 2 and 3 from within the game it’s not too bad. If you need to redeem a code, however, it means that the resale value of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy will be next to nothing. In either case, if you’re dead-set on buying it, it might be worth considering doing so digitally.
I’ve reached out to Activision PR to provide clarification on the matter, and will update this news post when I hear back.
