How to Craft Items in Red Dead Redemption 2

While you can buy and scavenge a huge number of items in Red Dead Redemption 2, if you want to save some money crafting is also an option.

If you want to craft items such as potions and ammunition, it’s easy. When you’re out and about, simply hold the Y button on Xbox One or the triangle button on PS4 to rest. From there, you’re given the option to begin crafting. Alternatively, hold the right shoulder button to access the weapons menu, press the right shoulder button to switch to the items menu, and then select the craft option at the bottom of the radial menu with the right analogue stick.

To craft items, you’ll of course need ingredients as well as recipes. Many recipes you’ll discover by completing side quests, but some are given to you from the outset. Ingredients you’ll have to find yourself while you’re out exploring.

You can also craft a number of useful equipment upgrades and customisation items for your camp by obtaining pelts. Visit the cook back your camp to see what’s available, and when you head out to get the pelts required, make sure you use a bow to kill your prey. Using a gun will often make a mess, resulting in a poor pelt being obtained.

All in all, you don’t need to craft anything to make your way through Red Dead Redemption 2, but it is a cost effective way to keep you fed and upgrade some of your equipment.
