Unlike previous Metro games, Metro Exodus lets you drive a number of vehicles. Here’s how to handle them.
Boat, mini van and other free-roam vehicles:
Hold down the interact button (X on the Xbox One controller) to enter the vehicle.
Use the accelerate button (Right Bottom Trigger on the Xbox) to move faster and the reverse button to go back (Left Bottom Trigger on the Xbox).
Use the left joystick (or the PC equivalent) to move left and right.
Accelerating to maximum speed will let you mow down enemies if you’re in a car. If you’re in a boat, you need to steer clear of underwater enemies otherwise they’ll attack your boat.
Tap the interact button (X on the Xbox One controller) to get out.
Train, and other on-rails vehicles:
Hold down the interact button (X on the Xbox One controller) to enter the vehicle.
Still use the accelerate button (Right Bottom Trigger on the Xbox) to move faster and the reverse button to go back (Left Bottom Trigger on the Xbox).
Use the A button to switch your chair around, which isn’t necessary but makes driving a bit easier.
However, since you’re on rails, you’ll need to move obstacles out of your way. This may mean getting out and opening a gate, after dispatching enemies. Or, when you’re taking the train through the depot, it means getting out and changing the points to give you a clear path to the Aurora.
Tap the interact button (X on the Xbox One controller) to get out. You may need to tap it twice on some vehicles.
Have fun wiping viscera off your windshields!
