An enjoyable action adventure romp, DreamWorks Dragons Dawn of New Riders is filled with puzzles to solve.
While the game has nothing too taxing, it’s easy to get stumped – especially when you’re faced with the game’s first sliding block puzzles.
Once you inherit your first heavy weapon – a big hammer – you’ll be able to use it to hit a big block and move it to power a pressure switch. When faced with one block, it’s no problem: simply hit the block and it’ll move in the direction of your swing.
But in the game’s first dungeon, you’ll come across a cluster of blocks that you seemingly cannot move as they all block each other. I was stumped, and ended up spending fifteen minutes looking for something else I’d missed.
This sliding block puzzle in Dawn of New Riders is solvable, though, and it’s very easy too. Using your powered-up attack on a set of adjacent blocks will move the block at the end of the chain. Holding down your attack button to do a power attack is the key if a block looked hemmed in.
For example, if you need to move a block down, but there’s a block above it blocking your access to it, do a power attack on the block above. The block you attack will stay in place, but the one below it will move in the direction of the attack.
And that’s it! Once you know to use your power attack by holding down your attack button, DreamWorks Dragons Dawn of New Riders’ sliding block puzzles are easy.
Normally, hitting a block will only move it one space. But when solving block puzzles with ice, the block will keep sliding until it hits a barrier (or another block). Remember to use Patch’s fire ability which will temporarily warm up the block and its surroundings if you need to move it only one place.
You’ll need to be quick, though, as everything will turn back to ice after a few seconds.
