When it was announced that the most recent Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, wouldn’t have a single player campaign, we were a bit gobsmacked.
Yes, a hell of a lot of people only buy Call of Duty games for their multiplayer modes, sure. But a hell of a lot of people also remember the fun they had playing through the stories of Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on veteran difficulty. That’s why we’re very glad to hear that the next Call of Duty, which we’ll call Call of Duty 2019 for now, will have a single player campaign.
As reported by Charlie Intel, during Activision’s 2018 earnings call, Activision President Rob Kostich stated that the next Call of Duty game will have an “entirely new campaign, a huge and expansive multiplayer world, and some fun co-op gameplay.” Developed by Infinity Ward, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick also stated, “I haven’t seen this much enthusiasm that I can remember almost ever” when talking about the internal reaction to the title.
So, we can probably expect zombies in Call of Duty 2019, or at least something that plays similarly, the usual suite of online modes, and a single player campaign. Although who knows, maybe the campaign will be playable in co-op, too. All we really know is that with a campaign once again being a part of the package, Call of Duty 2019 is definitely on our radar. Expect to find out more about it later this year. Maybe at E3, perhaps.
