Ah, good old ratings boards, often letting slip that a new game is on the way before it has even been officially announced.
In this case it’s Castlevania Anniversary Collection, which has been spotted on the Australian Goverment’s Classification website.
Honestly, the listing for Castlevania Anniversary Collection doesn’t really give much away. It simply indicates that it’s a multi platform release and that it has been rated PG for “mild fantasy themes and violence”. When you look at which Castlevania games have been rated as PG or lower in the past by the board, though, you get an idea of what it might contain.
Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse and Super Castlevania IV have all received a rating of PG or lower by the Australian Classification board in the past. So too have Symphony of the Night, Dracula X Chronicles, Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance and Castlevania: The Adventure, along with Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth. So, unless some of the other Castlevania games have had their ratings lowered, which is possible, those are the titles that could appear in the Castlevania Anniversary Collection.
Why it’s called the Castlevania Anniversary Collection is still a mystery though, as it’s not a particularly noteworthy anniversary for the Castlevania series this year. The first Castlevania game was released in September 1986, and being 33 years old is a weird anniversary to celebrate. Still, anything Castlevania-related gets us excited, and so we now eagerly await Konami to actually announce the thing.
