7 Tips to Help You Become a Fortnite Master

Fortnite is one of the most accessible games out there.

Well, it is if by “accessible” you mean a game that’s easy to start and that’s taught thousands of people a special dance. However, however simple it may be to pick up, it’s not an easy game to master by any stretch of the imagination.

Sure, you may just walk around and shoot around with friends and family and tell yourself the true reward was the fun you had along the way, but that just makes you a filthy casual. If you want the real Fortnite experience, you’ve gotta play to win. It’s called “Battle Royale” for a reason.

Here are some tips on how to get your head in the game and become the undisputed Fortnite Battle Royale champion.

First things first

Before we go on to any of the Fortnite tricks, here’s a brief reminder of (or introduction to, if you’re new) what Fortnite actually is and how it plays. It’s an online multiplayer battle royale, which means that you’ll be playing against a number of different people and the last man standing wins. But victory is not achieved that easily.

You will need to display a wide variety of skills – combat, focus, patience, survival, tactics, and anything else that would help you win a fierce, chaotic battle to the death in real life. After all, this is a battlefield, and anything goes in love and war. You’ll be facing opponents who have the same goal in mind, with the same odds as you – no one will show you mercy. Learn this lesson quickly if you want to stand any chances of becoming a Fortnite master. The tips we’re sharing are constantly being utilised by some of the most successful Fortnite players around the web. In the end, you’ll have to come up with the tactics on your own, gauging how the situation changes around you, but we’re fairly confident you’ll have a good starting point after applying everything we’re about to tell you about.

Don’t land willy-nilly

The first thing you’ll do in a Fortnite match is choose a landing spot. Do yourself a favour and don’t land in any of the main regions. You might be fooled into thinking they are the only spaces where you can land, but that’s not the case. You can land pretty much anywhere, so why would you even consider landing exactly in the same spot everyone and their mother will be landing?

By choosing to land in a more secluded spot, you’re safe from that initial chaos that’s bound to ensue as those who know what they’re doing weed out the weak and reap the rewards. If you’re worried about being left stranded smack dab in the middle of nowhere with nothing to defend yourself with but a wooden spatula, fear not. The map is stuffed with tiny locations that have decent loot hidden inside. Once you’re in a more peaceful spot, you can go out, explore, and outfit yourself in (relative) peace.

Learn from previous matches – memorise chest locations and gun it!

You’ll soon learn that loot is pretty much everything in Fortnite. Whether it’s weapons or resources, hoarding stuff is the key both to surviving and getting some kills in, so there probably isn’t a moment during which you shouldn’t be on the lookout for stuff.

That said, while engaging in open combat, sometimes it might be easier to miss chests with valuable loot. Still, if you know what you’re looking for, you’re more likely to spot it. Thankfully, chest layout doesn’t change a lot between matches. Once you’ve found a reliable chest during a match, try to remember its location and just get there as soon as possible during your next run.

Of course, Fortnite is constantly being updated, so these treasure chest locations are
definitely not something set completely in stone. Still, some of them might stay intact, so it
always pays to remember a few.

Building literally saves lives

In Fortnite there’s this concept of a Panic Wall. This isn’t an official term by any means, but it explains the purpose of this tool the best. It’s also called a 1×1 sometimes, which is pretty self-explanatory.

In Fortnite you’ll use more than weapons to improve your chances of surviving; you’ll also be able to use your building skills. With the press of a button, you can raise a simple structure that will shield you from enemy bullets. It’s a “1×1” structure that serves as a makeshift panic room – that’s why it’s a Panic Wall. It gives you many advantages, including protection and higher ground, though it doesn’t last for long. It can be a life-saver, though.

Mastering this technique is probably one of the most key components to becoming an overall Fortnite master, so it’s a good idea to practice in a secluded place before taking on enemies and hoping for the best. Additionally, you can change your control scheme to make access to this command easier than ever before.

Shotguns are the priority

There are quite a lot of weapons to choose from in Fortnite, but the metagame is quite clear on this – shotguns are king. Of course, if you’re in a pinch, any other weapon will do, but most battles take place in such short a distance that there really isn’t any point to getting a different weapon, as none pack just as much of a punch. Get a shotgun ASAP. There’s really nothing else to it.

Supply drops are… also a priority

During a match, you’ll see crates dropping to the ground quite frequently. They contain various goodies that will definitely aid you. The catch is they’re not dropped just for you, so they’ll attract a crowd. Of course, one way of thinking about them is like an emergency kit that you can nab if you’re low on ammo, resources, etc. Or you could hide somewhere nearby and wait for players to come in, netting you an easy kill. It’s all up to you, really.

Be careful while cutting down trees for wood

Building is pretty important, but you can’t just build a wall out of air and positive thoughts. Materials are necessary, and about the easiest one to come by is wood. And you get wood by chopping down trees. Still, it’s a lengthy process that will most likely get you spotted and shot, so how should you go about this?

The first thing you want to do is make sure that you’re jumping as you chop, since this will make you much harder to hit. Then, you want to make sure that you’re aiming at the spinning circles – this way, chopping the tree won’t take as long. Finally, make sure you leave the tree with just a tiny amount of health left, so don’t chop it all the way down – this will ensure that enemies won’t spot you.

Slow and steady wins the race… until it doesn’t

Of course, you won’t really get far in Fortnite without a proper strategy. In general, it’s a good idea to build small forts inside rings, as this will keep you safe while the ring lasts, until you can proceed to the next one. Additionally, you’re getting high ground and a great spot for getting in those last couple of kills.

Still, you can’t really sit on your butt until the end of the game either, as the ring will get smaller and smaller and time is constantly clicking. It might be that you won’t be able to determine where the next one will show up. If that’s the case, you have to improvise – get out there and adjust your tactics to what happens around you. Keep your wits about and you’ll be winning matches like there’s no tomorrow.

Fortnite may be fun for everyone, but few will ever get to experience the joy of becoming a Fortnite master. Still, with these tips, you might just join their ranks soon enough. Strategise, adjust, and know what you’re doing and you’ll get far. Now go get ’em!
