If you’ve journeyed into the Forbidden Underground Waterway in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, you might have come up against some enemies that bear a striking resemblance to Shovel Knight.
You’ll encounter quite a few Shovel Armor enemies on your travels, and every time you do you’re likely to chuckle at the all-too obvious reference to the popular Shovel Knight series. But did you know that you can actually play as a Shovel Armor in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night?
Like pretty much every enemy in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Shovel Armors have a whole host of goodies to drop for you when defeated, and a shard to absorb. If you kill the odd Shovel Armor here and there, you’re likely to get some materials which come in handy when crafting. Kill some more and you’re likely to get a shovel or two which you can wield as a weapon. Kill enough Shovel Armors, however, and you might be lucky enough to get Ex Shovel Armor.
Upon equipping Ex Shovel Armor you instantly turn into a Shovel Armor yourself. Armed with a shovel and a new moveset, you are effectively playing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night as Shovel Knight. It’s not really feasible to play the entire game as Shovel Knight, but thanks to the shortcut feature you can quickly don the armour when it’s suitable. As extras go, it’s a pretty good one.
