Games to Watch Out For This August

We hope you’re all rich, because from the end of August onwards it appears there’s going to be an onslaught of games that you’re probably going to want to buy.

Whether you like action games, racing games or horror games, August has you covered. Even JRPG, sport and strategy fans will have at least one title to tempt them to part with their cash. The game we’re most excited to go hands-on with this month is Remedy’s Control, although Blair Witch and Wreckfest also have our attention.

Anyway, here are the games to watch out for this August.

1 Madden NFL 20 (1)

Madden NFL 20

Release date: 2nd August
Formats: PS4, Xbox One and PC

If you’re into American football, you should know that Madden NFL 20 is available right now. This year’s release drops the Longshot story mode, but it’s not a great loss. If you have EA Access, you can try the game for 10 hours before deciding whether you want to buy it or not.

2 Age of Wonders Planetfall (1)

Age of Wonders: Planetfall

Release date: 6th August
Formats: PS4, Xbox One and PC

Do you like rich sci-fi worlds and turn-based combat? If yes, you’ll love Age of Wonders: Planetfall. Released on 6th August on consoles as well as PC, strategy fans will get tens of hours of fun out of this title. And did we mention that it has dinosaurs equipped with lasers? We don’t need to say anymore, do we?

3 unlock new characters in rad

RAD

Release date: 20th August
Formats: PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC

Developed by Double Fine Productions, you just know that RAD is going to tickle your funny bones. A 3D rogue-like in which you take control of a teenage protagonist, the radioactive wasteland that you’ve got to explore will mutate you, giving you access to new abilities. And you’ll need them if you want to save the world.

Oninaki

Release date: 22nd August
Formats: PS4, Switch and PC

From Tokyo RPG Factory comes Oninaki, an action RPG with fast-paced battles and striking visuals. It’s out towards the end of August but there’s a demo available right now. Give it a try if you’re interested in the game.

5 Control-min

Control

Release date: 27th August
Formats: PS4, Xbox One and PC

Combine Remedy Entertainment’s third-person shooter action with Metroidvania-like exploration and you have Control. Needless to say, it seems very intriguing indeed. If you like thrilling combat, solid storytelling and possibly a bit of horror, you should really keep your eye on this title. We certainly are.

Wreckfest

Release date: 27th August

Remember Destruction Derby? Wreckfest might just be the modern equivalent. Racing around a track is fun, but it’s more fun when you’re encouraged to make brutal contact with your opponents. Earn money, upgrade and customise your rides, and cause havoc on the track. What more could you want?

Man of Medan

Man of Medan launches at the end of August and we simply can’t wait for it. We absolutely loved Until Dawn when it launched on PS4 way back in 2015, and Man of Medan seems to build on its formula, even incorporating a unique multiplayer mode. If you like interactive horror experiences, Man of Medan will likely be a must-buy.

Switch-exclusive Astral Chain looks great, and developed by PlatinumGames we know it’s going to play great, too. Letting you take control of the game’s protagonist and a special weapon called a Legion simultaneously, Astral Chain‘s combat promises to be stylish and thrilling, and you can even switch between Legions during battle. If you have a Switch and have previously enjoyed games such as Bayonetta and NieR: Automata, you’re probably going to want to invest in Astral Chain.

9 Blair Witch

The last Blair Witch film might have been a bit of a dud, but this new Blair Witch game looks like it might make up for it. Developed by Bloober Team, responsible for the likes of Layer of Fear and >Observer_, Blair Witch places you in the shoes of Ellis, a former police officer looking for a lost boy in the Black Hills forest near Burkittsville. And as we all know, there’s an evil presence in those woods. Do you have the courage to see Ellis’ journey though to its end?
