To succeed in Remnant: From the Ashes, you’re going to need to upgrade your armour and weapons.
Thankfully it isn’t such a hard task, you just need materials and scrap – both of which can be obtained by simply playing.
As you explore environments while playing Remnant: From the Ashes, look out for piles of scrap and materials such as iron just lying around. They usually have a small yellow column of light rising out of them. Scrap and materials are often also dropped by enemies when you kill them, and there are chests littered around which usually contain decent amounts of them. Just pop them open and loot away.
Once you’ve got a decent amount of scrap and materials, head back to Ward 13 and you can begin upgrading your equipment by talking to Rigs. Guns and melee weapons can be upgraded to increase the damage they cause to enemies, while anything you wear on your head, body and feet can be upgraded to reduce the damage you take from enemy attacks.
While the amount of scrap it costs to upgrade items remains consistent within tiers, the number of materials required increases with each level. You’ll soon have to make difficult choices as to which pieces of equipment you upgrade. It’s always worth checking in with the merchant, Ace, while back in Ward 13 though, as she usually has some materials for you to buy.
Iron can be used to upgrade standard pieces of equipment to +5. You’ll then need Forged Iron to increase your equipment to +10, and so on. The materials you need to upgrade your weapons should start to drop as you need them. Special weapons, crafted with materials dropped by bosses, require Lumenite Crystals as well as iron to be upgraded. Lumenite Crystals are obtained by defeating elite enemies, and can also be purchased from Ace.
It may be tempting to use all the materials and scrap you come across to upgrade the equipment you’re currently using in Remnant: From the Ashes. Bear in mind, however, that you might discover new weapons or pieces of armour while out adventuring that are possibly better. Maybe hang on to some of your resources in case you find better items to upgrade.
