Gears 5, perhaps the most anticipated game from Microsoft this year, releases next week.
Or at least it does if you wait for the standard version. The Ultimate Edition comes with four days early access, which means players can jump in from 9pm BST tomorrow, Thursday 5th September.
You can pre-order the Ultimate Edition right now for £70, and dive into the action tomorrow night. Or you can get access to the Ultimate Edition for just £2. I know what I’d rather do.
But what is this black magic, I hear you ask. How is it possible that I could play a brand new game, four days ahead of its release, for just £2? It’s got to be dodgy in some way, right?
Nope – it’s the power of Microsoft’s new Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Announced earlier this year, the Ultimate Game Pass combines Game Pass, Game Pass for PC and Xbox Live Gold into one monthly membership. And one of the perks of being an Ultimate member is getting access to the Ultimate edition of some games. Namely Gears 5.
To celebrate the launch of Gears 5, Microsoft is offering up a month’s membership to Game Pass Ultimate for just £2, giving you access to all its benefits – including early access to Gears 5.
If you’re already an Ultimate Game Pass member, sadly you can’t enjoy the £2 offer – but luckily for you you’ll already get early access to Gears 5. If you don’t currently have Ultimate Game Pass, however, head on over to Microsoft’s website where you can bag your first month for the bargain price.
After the first month, your membership will automatically renew at full price, £10.99 a month. But you can always cancel it at any point within that first month. Then you’ll not pay any more than £2. Can’t say fairer than that.
