Later this month, Nintendo is releasing a HD remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.
And as excited as I am for that, I’ve got to be honest: it’s not the Zelda game I’d have chosen for a HD remaster. No, that would have to be Link to the Past, the 1991 Super Nintendo release. It was one of the first games I played to completion as a kid, and it remains one of my all-time favourites. Had Nintendo announced a HD remaster of that, I would have thoroughly lost my shit.
YouTuber BlobVanDam has (partially) made those dreams come true by uploading a teaser of what The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past HD might look like. The video shows off the opening few minutes of the game, recreated in a gorgeous 3D style similar to what we’ve seen in the trailers for Link’s Awakening.
And… it’s just perfect. It’s everything I remember from A Link to the Past, and more. It’s a game that’s nearly 30 years old, but with a facelift, it feels like a whole new adventure all over again.
Sadly, BlobVanDam’s re-imagining is simply a four-minute long video that teases us with what could be. They specifically say in the comments that no fan game is in the making; it’s simply a video. But it’s enough to make me realise this is exactly what I want in life.
Give it a watch yourself:
Oh well. At least we can play the original A Link to the Past on Switch now.
