Coming to western markets next year, the next chapter in the Yakuza series Yakuza: Like a Dragon is going in a slightly different direction to previous games.
The Yakuza franchise is reaching its 15th anniversary, and SEGA is commemorating the occasion with a landmark reimagining of the acclaimed franchise: Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
The game will feature new characters, a new setting and a new combat system, for the first time putting you in control of brand new protagonist Ichiban Kasuga. Help Ichiban and his band of unlikely allies as they struggle to rise to the top of the Yakuza criminal underworld.
Changing up the combat system is honestly an odd choice, as the iconic brawling combat was one of the main appeals of the previous games. Yakuza: Like a Dragon instead uses an RPG-style turn based system, which may take some getting used to if you’re an established fan of the series.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is coming to the PlayStation 4 in Japan on January 16th, but in the west we will have to wait until a bit further into 2020 before we can get our hands on it.
You will be able to keep up with news on the game’s official website, but for now you can get a better idea of Ichiban’s story in the announcement trailer below.
