Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding comes second place to Days Gone in terms of PS4 exclusive sales, and fails to knock Moden Warfare off its top spot in the weekly charts.
Though Death Stranding was one of the most highly anticipated, Hideo Kojima’s first game since the acclaimed Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was not the best selling PlayStation exclusive of 2019. According to gameindustry.biz, Kojima’s latest effort sold 36% fewer units at launch compared to Days Gone from SIE Bend Studios, which released in April.
As well as being the best-selling PlayStation exclusives of 2019, Days Gone and Death Stranding are also the top two new IPs to launch this year, which is a testament to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s drive to continuously put out original games for the PS4.
Death Stranding also takes the runner-up prize in the weekly game charts for all formats according to UKIE/GfK, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare securing the number one position for the third week in a row. FIFA 20 holds its place at number three while Luigi’s Mansion 3 slides into fourth place from its spot at number two the previous week.
