Gensou Skydrift, a weird and magical tag-team racer worked on by former Mario Kart developers, will be flying onto Nintendo Switch and PC on December 12th.
Gensou Skydrift is brought to us by Sony Music’s publishing label UNTIES and developer illuCalab, a small indie studio featuring some of the staff who worked on Mario Kart: Double Dash.
Choose two partners out of a cast of 20 unique and colourful characters, then swoop into a race where one character flies around the track with the other stood atop their back.
That’s right, these witches don’t use broomsticks to fly, instead they choose to ride eachother like a surfboard. It makes for a bizarre sight: check out the new trailer below to see some of the strange gameplay in action.
Wow, I’d love to see people playing Quiddich like that.
Each character has unique spells, stats and powerups, so you can swap the driver and rider on the fly (get it, fly?) to utilise every advantage you can in the race. I’m a sucker for a silly and colourful racer, and this looks about as silly as they come. With the Mario Kart pedigree, this could end up being a fun little game.
Gensou Skydrift will be coming to Nintendo Switch and PC on December 12th. A PlayStation 4 version is set to arrive in the first quarter of 2020. For more information, you can head over to the game’s official website.
