Get “Behind the Gameplay” in This Streets of Rage 4 Featurette

streets of rage 4

A new video takes us behind the scenes of Streets of Rage 4, describing the process of recapturing the spirit and essence of this iconic beat-em-up series.

Streets of Rage 4 will be the first core entry to the franchise for over 25 years, and the team at Paris-based studio Dotemu (along with co-developers Guard Crush Games and Lizardcube) seem to know it’ll take something special to justify resurrecting the beloved series.

In the new “Behind the Gameplay” featurette, we hear from Jordi Asensio and a few of the other game designers working on Streets of Rage 4, talking about how they tackled the challenge of recreating the feel of the original games’ hard-hitting combat.

The video details how they went back and analysed every aspect of the original games, then settled on using Streets of Rage 2 (obviously the best in the series) as a benchmark to inspire the timing and impact of their own gameplay.

Streets of Rage 4 is set to land on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC at some point next year, but Dotemu are still holding out on a specific release date. Watch the featurette below for even more insights into many aspects of the game design process, or head over to the official website for further details about the game.

"Cynical", "sarcastic" and "irritable" are just some of the words that have been used to describe Diggy B, the other words usually being four letters long and incredibly rude. He can normally be found with a controller in his hands and strives to provide acerbic rants on all things gaming, from Gears of War to Candy Crush.
