In Pokémon Sword and Shield, you wear a different outfit when you’re competing in gym challenges. But can you change it? Here’s what you need to know.
Every time you defeat a gym champion in Pokémon Sword and Shield, you’re rewarded with a new gym outfit. Your starting outfit is plain white, so it’s a bit boring. The new ones you win are much more colourful – and you can buy more from clothes stores you’ll find in town, too.
But there’s no way to change the uniform you wear while competing in gym battles – at least not at the moment.
You can wear the gym uniforms you purchase or win by defeating gym leaders, but only in place of a regular outfit. Even if you’re wearing one, you’ll change back into your plain white gym outfit when it comes to entering a gym competition.
Most clothes stores in Pokémon Sword and Shield have a changing room. Even if you don’t buy an outfit from that particular store, you’re free to use the changing room. To change your outfit, simply walk into a changing room and you’ll be presented with a list of all your items of clothing. Use left and right on the d-pad to toggle through each type of garment.
Sorry to deliver the bad news: hopefully Pokémon Sword and Shield is updated at some point with a means to let us change our gym outfits.
