After being removed from digital stores in 2017, Alan Wake and its spin-off American Nightmare are finally available again on the Xbox Marketplace.
Remedy Entertainment’s 2010 action-adventure game Alan Wake disappeared from digital stores almost three years ago due to expiring music licenses. A bit of good news though, the game is finally back up on the Xbox Store for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One through backwards compatibility, along with its standalone spin-off Alan Wake’s American Nightmare.
Alan Wake returned to PC storefronts in October 2018 thanks to a renegotiation with Microsoft, and Remedy assured us at the time that it would return to Xbox consoles soon afterwards. I’m not sure what world Remedy is living in where “soon” means “over a year from now”, but whatever, we’re just happy that the game’s back.
A supernatural thriller with strong hints of Stephen King and Twin Peaks, Alan Wake follows the story of a best-selling author trying to uncover the mystery behind his wife’s disappearance, while events from his most recent novel start coming to life.
