Classic British Video Games Celebrated with New Stamps

Royal Mail has issued 12 new stamps that celebrate iconic UK-developed games from the 1980s and 90s, including Tomb Raider and Elite.

The first stamp issue of 2020, this new set includes four seperate stamps that chronicle the evolution of Tomb Raider‘s Lara Croft from 1996-2013; as well as individual stamps immortalising Elite, Dizzy, Populous, Lemmings, Micro Machines, Sensible Soccer, Wipeout and Worms.

Royal Mail worked with the Association for UK Interactive Entertainment (Ukie) to develop the stamps, as well as veteran gaming expert Julian “Jaz” Rignall and founder of Bitmap Books, Sam Dyer. You can pre-order the full set on the Royal Mail website for £14.25, featuring all 12 stamps in a presentation pack.

Many of these retro UK-made games still have franchises that are still going strong today, including Worms, Wipeout, Elite and, of course, Tomb Raider. Boy, it almost makes you proud to be British!
