Outriders Gameplay Gives Us a Glimpse at Next-Gen

Outriders (1)

Announced for PS5 and Xbox Series X, People Can Fly’s Outriders is likely to be one of the first games we play on next-gen consoles when they release later this year.

A third-person cover shooter with loot, it should be right up the street of anyone that loves both the Gears of War and Diablo series. And don’t worry, you won’t need a fancy and probably rather expensive next-generation console to play it – it will also be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

While the reveal trailer for Outriders gave us an inking of what it would be like, an official gameplay presentation now gives us a considerable window into how the game looks and plays. Honestly, it looks pretty good to us. The cover shooting action looks very similar to Gears of War, which probably shouldn’t come as a surprise seeing as People Can Fly developed Gears of War: Judgment. While the core Gears gameplay hasn’t changed over the years, however, Outriders‘ RPG elements seem to inject a bit of freshness. Maybe this is what Gears 5 should have been like?

As an Outrider you’ll be able to choose one of four classes – Trickster, Pyromancer, Devastator, and a fourth that has yet to be revealed – and then develop your character as you see fit. There are skill trees, of course, and loot can be obtained that will have a considerable effect on your character’s abilities. Needless to say, players are likely to spend a lot time trying to optimise their character’s skills and equipment.

While Outriders already looks racer nice, as you can see via the video below, you can expect it to look better on next-gen consoles and PC come launch. And yes, while you can play it solo, it’s designed with co-op in mind. Games like this are always more enjoyable when played with friends, after all. So, don’t waste any more time, give the video below a watch and witness what you’ve got to look forward to before the year is over.
