Sunset Overdrive

The Best Xbox One Exclusive Games

You Can’t Play These on the PS4

The Xbox One might not be seen as the console that has the most exclusive titles, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have plenty to offer up.

While you can’t play God of War or Horizon Zero Dawn on the Xbox One, you can play a whole host of stellar exclusive titles that won’t ever make their way onto the PS4. And if you’ve got an Xbox One X, you’ve got the best console to play most multi-platform third-party titles, too.

Thanks to Microsoft’s Play Anywhere initiative, most of the Xbox One games it publishes are now also available to play on PC. So, for the sake of argument, here are the best Xbox One console exclusive games. Yes, you can play plenty of these games on PC, perhaps with fancier graphics and higher frame rates. But if you’re an Xbox One owner who doesn’t have access to or can’t be bothered to mess around with a PC when you want to just relax in your living room, then you really ought to have these Xbox One exclusive games in your collection.

So, without further ado, here’s a list of the best Xbox One exclusive games.

Forza Horizon 4 7

Forza Horizon 4 is perhaps the best Xbox One exclusive game available. It truly is phenomenal.

Letting you loose in a fun recreation of Great Britain, you can race until your heart’s content, amassing a garage full of cars that you can tweak to your pleasure. Honestly, there’s just so much content in Forza Horizon 4 that you can play it for months and still have something to do.

Did we mention that it looks absolutely gorgeous, too? On Xbox One X, you can choose to either play it in 4K, or lower the resolution and play at 60 frames per second. Whichever you choose, your jaw will hit the floor. If you have an Xbox One, you need to play this game. It’s as simple as that.

Halo: Master Chief Collection

Top 10 Xbox One Exclusive Games

This game is Xbox One X enhanced

Halo has long since been the staple of any Xbox owner’s game collection, so of course Halo: Master Chief Collection was going to feature on our list.

This Xbox One exclusive brings together Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4 in one volume, with all games getting a pretty hefty visual upgrade. Halo 3 ODST and Halo Reach are also available as DLC, too.

What’s cool is with a single click of a button you can toggle between the original and the remastered versions of both Halo and Halo 2, just to see how much work Microsoft has done to bring these games up to next-gen standard. And while its online features were unforgivably broken at launch, numerous patches have improved the situation considerably since, and the sheer amount of campaign content makes this collection essential for any Halo fan.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is perhaps the best Xbox One exclusive game.

Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition

Top 10 Xbox One Exclusive Games

This game is Xbox One X enhanced

With its unique combo system, Killer Instinct is a fighting game that all Xbox One owners should at least try. There’s no excuse either, seeing as there’s a free version of it available on the Xbox Store.

Three seasons of characters are included in the Definitive Edition, as well as many other goodies including the original Killer Instinct arcade games. With nice graphics, a crazy cast of characters and satisfying combat, Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition is an Xbox One exclusive worthy of your time. Some even consider it to be the best fighting game of this generation.

Gears of War 4

This game is Xbox One X enhanced

Gears of War 4 is a must-have for Xbox One owners. Shifting the focus away from Marcus Fenix and co., it presents players with a fresh story that introduces new enemies and gameplay features.

As usual, its campaign can be enjoyed alone or with friends, and once you’re done with it there are many online multiplayer options. Horde Mode is still our favourite, and it’s very much expanded in Gear in War 4 making it more engrossing to play than ever.

Gears of War 4 doesn’t attempt to revolutionise the series, and there’s nothing wrong with that. So, if you’re a fan of the Gears of War series you’re bound to love it even if it feels a little familiar. It truly is one of the best Xbox One exclusive games available.

Forza Motorsport 7

This game is Xbox One X enhanced

If you like your racing more serious, you’ll probably find Forza Motorport 7 more to your tastes than Forza Horizon 4. It looks fantastic and has a huge amount of content, but it demands that you put in solid performances on actual tracks rather than letting you drive everywhere like a maniac.

Finishing Forza Motorsport 7‘s campaign will take you ages, and then there’s Rivals mode and plenty of online options to get stuck into. For the full experience, get a steering wheel peripheral for the Xbox One such as the Logitech G920. It’ll make your time with this great Xbox One console exclusive so much more rewarding.

Sunset Overdrive

Top 10 Xbox One Exclusive Games

Imagine if Saints Row and Tony Hawks had a baby… it would turn out to be something like Sunset Overdrive.

Essentially a third-person shooter, Sunset Overdrive turns things up a notch by adding in grind rails, a wacky storyline and well-written laugh out loud comedy. It’s not technically perfect, with sometimes fiddly controls and a few mission glitches, but boy is it a whole lot of fun.

Chances are you’ve never played anything quite like Sunset Overdrive before, which is why it has to feature in our list of the best Xbox One exclusive games. It’s a must for any Xbox One owner. It’s just a shame that it’s not Xbox One X enhanced, nor is it included in Xbox Game Pass like most of the other games on this list.

Quantum Break

This game is Xbox One X enhanced

From the masters of third-person story-based shooters, Remedy, Quantum Break is a fantastic game that gives you extraordinary powers.

Placing you in control of Jack Joyce, played by Shawn Ashmore, you’ll fight to stop to machinations of the secretive Monarch Solutions, a company that seeks to use time control for nefarious purposes. It’s an action-packed adventure with twists and turns, but its combat is the real highlight.

Blending gameplay with what are effectively TV episodes, Quantum Break will have you on the edge of your seat until its thrilling conclusion.

Gears 5

This game is Xbox One X enhanced

The newest game in the Gears of War series plays with the formula a little. There are open world sections where you have a bit of freedom, Jack can now be upgraded and commanded in combat, and there are new multiplayer modes. The core Gears of War gameplay remains the same, however, which means it’s definitely worth checking out.

In Gears 5‘s campaign you’ll take control of numerous characters throughout a compelling new story. To say any more would spoil it. But rest assured, there are new enemies, new scenarios and more to keep you glued to the screen. And when the campaign is over you can take the action online.

Is it the best Gears of War game? Probably not – we prefer Gears of War 4 to be honest. Is it one of the best Xbox One exclusive games? Definitely.

Ryse: Son of Rome

Top 10 Xbox One Exclusive Games

Even though it’s not Xbox One X enhanced, Ryse is still a fantastic looking game. And to think – it was a launch title.

It’s not all about the graphics though, as Ryse is also a fun and brutal action game that will have you riveted from beginning to end. While its combat is rather basic, the large number of brutal finishers available keeps it interesting. And there’s plenty of content outside of the game’s story to keep you going back to it time and time again.

Ryse may be rather old now, but it’s still one of the best Xbox One exclusive games. We just hope it gets a sequel someday.

D4: Dark Dreams Don’t DieTop 10 Xbox One Exclusive Games

Directed by SWERY, the twisted yet genius mind behind the inimitable Deadly Premonition, D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die has you playing as David Young, a private investigator who finds he has the ability to travel through time after being traumatised by his wife’s murder. He cannot time travel at will however; instead he must find mementos that can take him to a specific point in time.

While its optional Kinect motion controls are now pretty much defunct and its visuals are a bit dated, D4 is a strange yet mesmerising title. It’s highly recommended for fans of the point-and-click adventure genre. It’s certainly the Xbox One’s most unusual exclusive. So, if you fancy playing something a little different, be sure to give it a download.
