It’s been a long day in the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. You’re ready to rest, virtually and in real life. But how do you sleep?
Right at the beginning of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you’re told to go sleep. This is one of the only times you’ll be asked to do so in the game. Animal Crossing plays out in real time, so you can’t sleep to pass the time. You can simply assume that when you’re sleeping in your real-life bed, your villager is sleeping in theirs, too.
When you arrive on your island, Tom Nook will provide you with a bed. You’ll need to place this in your tent. Enter your tent, press X to bring up your inventory, then select the bed (called a ‘cot’ here – it’s a rickety camp bed), and select ‘place’. Voila: you now have a bed.
Simply walking up to the side of your bed will prompt your villager to climb into it. On this first task, you’ll be prompted whether you want to go to sleep.
Otherwise, climbing into bed will simply show your villager resting. They may shut their eyes, but time won’t pass by any quicker. Pushing on the left stick will see them climb out of bed again.
