We might not be getting a mainline WWE 2K game this year, but 2K has announced something new: WWE 2K Battlegrounds.
From Saber Interactive, the developer of NBA 2K Playgrounds, WWE 2K Battlegrounds is a wrestling game in the same vein. It takes the WWE formula, cartoonifies it and… arguably, makes it look a heck of a lot more fun.
Well, that probably depends on how you feel about wrestling to begin with, but I’m down for some silly bobble-headed WWE action.
WWE 2K Battlegrounds is designed to be even more over-the-top than the mainline games, offering arcade-style action and exaggerated Superstar designs and moves. It’s designed to be a social game, allowing anyone to pick-up-and-play; yet it still promises plenty of depth for those who want to really get into it.
With no WWE 2K21 coming out this year, at least wrestling fans have something to look forward to. There’s no set release date for Battlegrounds just yet, but 2K has scheduled it to arrive ‘this autumn’.
