Wondering how and when Nook’s Cranny on your Animal Crossing: New Horizons upgrades to a bigger store? Here’s everything you need to know.
When you start your adventure in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nook’s Cranny doesn’t exist. Well, not quite. To begin with, you can buy and sell to Timmy and Tommy from the Resident Services tent. Very early on into the game, you’ll be tasked with finding 30 wood, 30 hardwood and 30 iron nuggets, which will be used to build a brand new store. The day after you’ve completed that task, you’ll have a brand new store: Nook’s Cranny!
However, it’s not the biggest store, only stocking a couple of new items every day. The good news is, that’s not the last upgrade Timmy and Tommy will have. Later on into your Animal Crossing journey, it’ll get a second upgrade into a bigger and altogether better store.
The upgrade process for Nook’s Cranny is, for the most part, automatic. There are two criteria you need to have hit before the upgrade will trigger:
- Nook’s Cranny needs to have been open at least 30 days; and
- You need to have bought or sold at least 200,000 Bells worth of items.
If you’re frequently selling items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you’ll hit that 200,000 Bells requirement in no time. That just means waiting 30 days. When it’s time, Isabelle will make an announcement that the store will be closed for a day while the upgrade takes place. That means you won’t be able to buy or sell anything for 24 hours. But it’s worth the wait; the upgraded Nook’s Cranny has five items on rotation every day, and an expanded selection in the stock cupboard.
You’ll find two small household items, two larger items and one luxury item to purchase every day. The store cupboard will also have a greater selection of wallpaper, flooring, flowers and tools.
