Revealed last week with a story trailer, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the next entry in Ubisoft’s iconic series.
It sees you taking on the role of a Viking warrior, invading England during the dark ages. And it looks fantastic. Even more so now we’ve had a glimpse at gameplay.
If you missed last week’s reveal, you can watch the cinematic trailer here, and read our lowdown of everything we know so far. But during today’s Inside Xbox stream, Ubisoft has shown off the first in-game footage of the game – and although it was short, it looks fantastic.
The trailer highlighted next-gen Xbox Series X performance, so graphically, it looks like nothing we’ve seen before from the series. Textures and scenery pop to life with more clarity than ever. Water, fire and the sky looks realistic, and characters move in a much more realistic, natural way. There’s only just over a minute of footage, but it gives us a lot to look forward to.
From watching the trailer, it seems our hero, Eivor, will have a bird companion. Like Bayek’s eagle in Assassin’s Creed Origins, it’s likely the bird will play an integral part in scouting out locations and helping you explore the world.
And what a world. The trailer gives us a glimpse of a Viking ship at sea, before some sweeping panoramas of the beautiful English countryside. There’s a stunning shot of Stonehenge, which really sets the scene.
All in all, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has already given us a lot to be excited about. Set to release this holiday 2020, we’ll share more on the game as and when it becomes available.
