We’d say we don’t have to wait long, but technically we’ve been waiting 22 years.
The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game released in 1998. And here, in this trashfire year of our lord 2020, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is rising from the ashes. On October 2, you’ll be able to play a brand new numbered Crash game on PS4 and Xbox One.
The trailer shows off the Crash we know and love, making his way through new worlds and packing in tonnes of new abilities. Running away from a giant dinosaur? We’ve got that. Wearing a futuristic space suit and running on the ceiling? Sure, that too. Fleeing from a hulking ancient God? Certainly looks like it.
Crash isn’t alone in his adventure, either; Aku-Aku and Coco are along for the ride, and of course there’s plenty of appearances from Neo Cortex.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time picks up right where Warped left off. So essentially, you can pretend that any Crash game since has never happened. Which is, you know… cool, I guess? This time, though, it’s of course not being developed by Naughty Dog, who have moved onto bigger and better things (and sold the rights to the franchise some years ago). Toys For Bob, who handled the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, is developing the game, being overseen by producer Activision.
If you’re a fan of the classic Crash games, anyway, this is one to add to your calendar. Crash 4 launches on 2nd October on PS4 and Xbox One. Give the trailer a watch below to wet your whistle.
