Port Royale 4 is looking absolutely lovely, as shown by the naval trading sim’s latest gameplay trailer.
Dubbed “Exploration”, this half-hour long trailer does exactly what it says on the tin; it features a player-controlled character roaming the Caribbean seas, showing off the open oceanic world of Port Royale 4.
There’s no ship-on-ship combat, no piratical murder or shoddy ethics, though we know that’ll figure into the final game. Instead, there’s just wonderful warm seas, water so clear you can see the seabed, and some utterly gorgeous sunsets. It’s so relaxing that you could mix yourself a Mai Tai, lean back in your chair and drift away. Take a look for yourself:
Clearly, a lot of work’s gone into making Port Royale 4 look this good, right down to the realistic movement of the waves and the sunlight glinting off the water. That said, you won’t be able to sit around and gawp all the time. As illustrated by Port Royale 4‘s other trailers, there’s every chance your player’s ship will be waylaid by others, particularly since it casts you as the governor of an up-and-coming colony.
We’ll wager your competition won’t always appreciate your efforts, particularly if you choose to forge an aggressive path. Publishers Kalypso promise that you’ll “engage in tactical, turn-based naval battles with powerful captains,” as well as forging trade routes and growing your township into a 17th century metropolis.
If conquering the Caribbean in a morally suspect manner sounds right up your street, you can dive into Port Royale 4’s PC beta right now if you pre-order Port Royale 4 from Kalypso’s store. Or if you’re not ready to spend your pieces of eight yet, you can wait until 24th September when it hits Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC via the Steam Store.
