Maid of Sker is filled with creepy enemies, figures with sacks over their head, stalking you around the hotel’s corridors. Here’s how to get past them.
The enemies in Maid of Sker are blind, so they can’t see you. But they have sharp hearing, so even the slightest noise – sometimes even just your breath – is enough to alert them to your presence. Once they know you’re there, they’ll lunge at you or chase after you, and it’s very hard to escape. So how do you get past them?
Stealth is the key here. You’ll need to spend a lot of time sneaking: press the right analogue stick in order to sneak. This makes less noise, so you’re less likely to alert enemies to your whereabouts.
If you see an enemy approaching you, the best thing to do is stay still. Tuck yourself out of the way of their path; if they walk too close to you, even if they can’t hear you, it’s likely they’ll detect you.
To further reduce your noise, you can cover up your mouth to mask your breathing. Do this by pressing the right trigger on your controller. This is particularly necessary if you’re in a dusty environment, or near a fire; both will make you cough, which instantly alerts nearby enemies to your position.
Remember not to hold your breath for too long though. The screen slowly drains to black and white, indicating that you’re running out of air. The longer you leave it, the more damage you’ll do to yourself. You’ll also do a big gasp of air afterwards, so be sure to be out of earshot of enemies.
So: to get past enemies in Maid of Sker you need to be sneaky and quiet. Patience is key, waiting for them to pass before moving. And if you do need to move near to an enemy, be sure to cover your breath and use the sneak function.
