Everything Announced During Gamescom Opening Night Live 2020

Missed today’s Gamescom Opening Night Live event? Don’t worry – here’s everything that was shown off.

Hosted by Geoff Keighley, Gamescom Opening Night Live is a showcase of game announcements to celebrate the start of Gamescom. This year’s a bit different; Gamescom is a digital event thanks to Covid-19, but for us at home, watching ONL on stream anyway, it doesn’t feel so different.

The stream lasted just over two hours, with a lot of announcements packed in – including some brand new games. Here’s everything that was announced.

A new trailer for Bandai Namco’s Scarlet Nexus, a futuristic anime adventure that was previously announced for Xbox Series X and Xbox One.

A first look at Quantum Error, a first person horror adventure, coming to PS4 and PS5.

A new trailer for DIRT 5, showcasing its trackbuilding ‘Playgrounds’ mode. You can read more about that right here.

Jurassic World Evolution: Complete Edition is coming to Switch in November, bundling in all DLC and content.

We got a better look at Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, which was first revealed yesterday.

We got an intriguing trailer for Unknown9, an adventure with a sci-fi slant set to release on next-gen consoles.

A new trailer for DOOM Eternal’s upcoming DLC, Ancient Gods Part 1.

Casey Hudson, VP from Bioware and his team announced a new Dragon Age game in the works. As of yet, there’s no title or proper trailer but… it’s on its way.

Surgeon Simulator 2 is out now – an announcement that came from… Doc Brown from Back to the Future? Yeah, we’re as confused as you.

Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead is coming later this year. Which, er, combines bridge building with… The Walking Dead.

Sam and Max are making a return!

Blizzard reveals an animated series set in the world of World of Warcraft, called Afterlives. We also got a new trailer for its next expansion, Shadowlands, which is set to release on 27th October.


We got a bit more information about Crash Bandicoot 4 – and a video of a giant Crash wandering the real world wearing a mask. Because 2020.

A new trailer for Outriders, the action game from People Can Fly and Square Enix. It’s still scheduled for a holiday 2020 release.



We got a trailer for a voxel-based game called Teardownwhich seems to…. literally be about tearing stuff down. We’re there.

Little Nightmares II gets its first trailer since last year. It looks haunting and beautiful – as you’d expect.

A new trailer for Star Wars: Squadrons, focusing on the single-player campaign.

Star Wars comes to The Sims 4! Journey to Batuu lets your Sims live out their dreams from a galaxy far, far away. It’s an insane crossover that we did not expect. Coming 8th September.

We got a new trailer for 12 Minutes, a brilliant-looking narrative game coming from Annapurna Interactive. It stars Daisy Ridley, James Mcavoy and Willem Dafoe, and it’s exclusive to Xbox.

A trailer for Warframe’s new expansion, Heart of Deimos.

Override 2: Super Mech League was announced, with a cool-looking trailer. It’s releasing this holiday.

A new trailer for Mafia: Definitive Edition, which is coming to PC and consoles on 25th September.

A new game, Lemnis Gate, got a trailer. It’s a multiplayer FPS based around a 25-second time loop.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga got a new gameplay trailer. It’s LEGO and Star Wars, so naturally we love it. It’s now set to release spring 2021.


Struggling, a hilarious but gross co-op game has surprise-launched on PC and Switch. It’s out now.

We got an announcement trailer for Age of Empires III, coming to PC (and Xbox Game Pass for PC) on October 15th.

We got the first gameplay trailer for Chorus, a sci-fi action game that was first announced back in May.

We got a sneak peek of Fall Guys season two content and costumes It’s getting medieval!

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, coming to Oculus devices, got a new story trailer.

We got a trailer for Spellbreak, a free-to-play multiplayer game launching on 3rd September.


We got a trailer for Turrican, a classic game about to be revived.

What is a a games showcase without Destiny content? We got a look at Destiny 2: Beyond Light. It’s coming November 10th?

We got a new look at Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, running on PS5. The extended clip shows uninterrupted gameplay, and it looks very pretty indeed. It’s a launch game for PS5, whenever that may be.
