Remnant: From the Ashes’ Subject 2923 DLC Is Well Worth Picking Up

Remnant From the Ashes Subject 2923

In my August 2019 review for Remnant: From the Ashes, I stated that “in a year from now, I can imagine it being truly excellent.” And you know what? It is.

Since launch, Remnant: From the Ashes has been polished and tweaked, and more content and features have been added. It is simply a much better game. Paid DLC has been released for it as well. Swamps of Corsus included a new rogue-like Survival mode, as well as adding a new zone for adventure mode as well as new items, weapons, mods, traits, armour, and more. Now the second, and last, piece of paid DLC is available for the game: Subject 2923.

Unlike Swamps of Corsus, Subject 2923 actually adds to Remnant: From the Ashes‘ story. Therefore, it’s something you should definitely wait to play until you’ve finished the main game’s campaign. When you’re ready, you simply go to the World Stone in Ward 13, choose to reroll your campaign, and select Subject 2923. Your existing character will be carried over.

Beginning the DLC, you’ll find yourself on the rural outskirts of Ward Prime, an abandoned military base that is your destination; getting their won’t be an easy task, but you’re keen to discover the secrets that it holds. Ultimately, what is revealed will lead you to yet another new area: the mountainous and freezing cold Reisum, where Remnant: From the Ashes‘s story finally comes to a thrilling conclusion.

Those playing through the Subject 2923 campaign will find that it’s essentially more of the same. There are challenging encounters, a nice mix of linear and more complex environments, and plenty of loot to be found. Like Swamps of Corsus, Subject 2923 introduces more weapons, armour, and trinkets to the game, as well as new bosses and quests. It’s reason enough to plough through the two new zones, though those invested in the game’s story will undoubtedly get more out of it.

Of course, much of the content featured in the Subject 2923 campaign is also accessible outside of it. The two new zones that have been introduced are also available in Survival and Adventure mode, for example, as well as the new bosses and enemies that they bring into the mix. Hardcore mode has also been on the receiving end of some new rewards. So, even once you’ve beaten the new DLC campaign, it still provides many hours of additional entertainment.

Available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC for around £7.19/$9.99, the Subject 2923 DLC for Remnant: From the Ashes should be considered a must-have by fans of the game. It’s a much more generous offering than Swamps of Corsus, and is a very good reason to return to the game once more. The release of Subject 2923 is accompanied by the digital launch of Remnant: From the Ashes – Complete Edition, too, which is a great way for those who haven’t played the game before to jump in. So, there’s never been a better time to jump in, or return to, Remnant: From the Ashes.

Remnant: From the Ashes – Complete Edition is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. It includes the base game, Swamps of Corsus, and Subject 2923, all of which can also be bought separately.
