Toss a coin to your mobile phone.
There’s a new Witcher game coming – though it’s probably not what you’d expect. The Witcher: Monster Slayer is a free-to-play augmented reality mobile game set in the Witcher universe.
Anyone who’s had the pleasure of trying out Pokémon Go or Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will pretty much know what to expect from this new title. Monsters from the Witcher series are roaming about in the real world in huge numbers. Taking on the role of a Witcher, you’ll study, track and fight them in order to protect the world.
As you walk around, you’ll collect items in order to be able to craft potions and oils, bombs and bait to attract monsters in order to get the upper hand. As you level up you’ll be able to take on more elite monsters and become fully immersed into the game.
Not only will you run into and slay monsters, but there’ll be story-driven quests for you to complete. It seems the game wants to set itself apart with an extra level of narrative depth. Whether it’ll actually pay off and prove to be successful remains to be seen.
So, if you fancy being Geralt of Rivia for a while, you’ll want to download The Witcher: Monster Slayer when it becomes available. It’s coming to both iOS and Android, and a release date will be announced later this year.
